MIMBRES
DESIGNS by JUDY MENEFEE
The clay pieces that I create reflect a lifelong inspiration of Mimbres bowl designs. The Mimbres people lived between 500-1200AD in southwest NewMexico--a branch of the Mogollon Indians. One feels their sense of connection to nature, humor and ceremony. These designs are timeless and also tell a story of the lives lived long ago.
I handcraft each piece, then individually paint with underglazes. My intention is to capture the energy, symetry and beauty originally seen and felt in the original bowls.
I hope your choice of a bowl or piece of jewelry will remind you of this area and the remarkable group who created and used such beautiful art.
